In Order to Be Considered, You Have to Be Seen
Yesterday, I had a meeting with my mentor that shifted something deep in me. She looked me right in the eyes and said,
“In order to be considered, you have to be seen.”
Those words have been echoing in my spirit ever since.
Because here’s the truth: so many of us, as women, have been taught, directly or indirectly, to shrink. To dim our light so we don’t “outshine” others. To play small so no one feels uncomfortable around us. We soften our voices, hide our talents, and tuck away our God-given dreams because the fear of rejection or judgment feels safer than standing in the fullness of who we are.
But God didn’t create us to live small.
When Jesus said in Matthew 5:14–16, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden… let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven,” He wasn’t giving us a suggestion, He was giving us a command. Your light isn’t just for you. It’s meant to illuminate the path for others.
And yet, we hide.
We hide because of past hurts.
We hide because we’re afraid of failure.
We hide because we’ve convinced ourselves that humility means invisibility.
But friend, humility is not hiding. Humility is acknowledging that your light doesn’t come from you, it comes from Him, and still choosing to let it shine boldly.
I’ve decided that I’m done playing small. I’m ready to be seen. Not for applause. Not for ego. But because God placed something inside of me that needs to be released into the world, and I won’t bury it anymore.
This week, I want to challenge you to do the same. Step into that room with confidence. Share your idea. Wear the bold color. Speak up in the meeting. Post the thing you’ve been afraid to post. Pray over it, and then do it anyway.
Because if you’re going to be considered… you have to be seen.
